Trekking in Ladakh

Remote Indian Himalayan holidays

"Electricity for three hours a day, one telephone and tea made from rancid yak butter: life in a remote Himalayan village with no road access" that's how travel journalist Sadie Whitelocks recalls her stay at the North West Indian village of Rumbak. In June2018 she travelled with us on a special departure for a holiday trekking in Ladakh & Kashmir. In a series of three in the Daily Mail online, she shares the experiences from her personal point of view. Find the articles below:

On our trekking holidays in North India, we take a small group of adventurers to stay in the village of Rumbak. It is located at 3850m in a spectacular gorge in Ladakh. Because of the altitude, we spend some time in the village to acclimatise and to learn more about the local culture before continuing our journey deeper into the Indian Himalayas.

Rumbak is said to date back around 400 years and for long has been a resting place for all kinds of people that were traversing the Himalayas. On our trip, we take trekkers to visit a friendly local family to learn more about their culture and to try several of their typical drinks. To learn more about this, read the vivid article written by the journalist.

If you are interested in a similar experience and like to go on trip that involves trekking in Ladakh, we tend to depart in June or early September. These holidays in North India are led by Lonely Planet author Garry Weare. Contact our team for a chat about the different trip options and to propose any queries you may have.
