Honeymoon with an Adventurous Twist: Everest Base Camp Trek Winner

We are delighted to announce our Everest Base Camp & Kala Pattar competition winner is Sally Baisden from Queensland, Australia. Congratulations Sally! We were thrilled to hear Sally will be putting her trek to very good use and will be taking her husband-to-be Ben on the trip for their honeymoon after their wedding in early 2018. What an epic and wonderful way to celebrate! We couldn't be happier for Sally and Ben. We decided to learn a little more about Sally and her exciting adventures ahead - see below for the interview.

Have you done much trekking before? What type of adventures do you love?

I have been doing long distance walking and hiking as a hobby for over 10 years. I have completed tonnes of 70km+ non-stop walks including Oxfam Trailwalker, Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge and The Drumley Walk (8 times). Also, for my work I took a group of teens to the Kokoda Track in PNG and I just wallow in the free and easy feeling of being in the outdoors!

My fiancé and I love the beach, cruising on our bikes, hikes, picnics and going to the gym. I've actually done so much sport, that I'm having surgery on my foot next Monday so I can get back out there better than ever!

Will this be your first trip to Nepal?

Yes! I had been eyeing off World Expeditions’ treks ever since I first saw them at the Banff Mountain Film Festival about 4 years ago, but with other work trips and long distance events I never had time to squeeze one in before my injury got the better of me.

I can't wait to see Kathmandu and the Everest Region of Nepal. To taste, smell, feel and see such a rich culture and to be able to do it with my partner is an absolute dream come true! Nothing can shape the soul like travel does.

So you're bringing your partner along for the ride? 

Without a doubt I will bring my fiancé Ben Dobromilsky to Nepal! Neither of us have had an opportunity like this and we can't wait to share the adventure on social media. We even often joke about how good we would be as travel bloggers!

You mentioned you are getting married early next year...how exciting! Will this trek be a honeymoon for you? Or part of your honeymoon?

Yes!!! We hadn't booked a honeymoon yet simply because nothing felt 'right'. Now we know why! For a couple like us, a monster adventure to Nepal will be the perfect journey to compliment our style and energy and top off an amazing wedding experience.

What are you most looking forward to on the trek?

Taking amazing photos, photography is also one of my passions. I know the landscape is going to be mind-blowing! Also, I am looking forward to meeting the locals - I adore a good chat with anyone and can't wait to hit local gathering places.

Nature! Soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the crunch of the ground, the crispness of the air and the bellowing grandeur of the mountains.

Finally, the challenge, climbing Kala Pattar and the daily hiking – I really can't wait!
