to circumnavigate Spitsbergen
This epic voyage presents a once‐in‐a‐lifetime opportunity to participate as a crewing member onboard a traditional schooner in one of the world’s most pristine environments. Following a flexible itinerary based on weather and sea ice conditions, we will be sailing out of Longyearbyen and attempting a circumnavigation of Spitsbergen, Svalbard’s largest island. Sailing with a small group of just 20 passengers aboard the basic but comfortable schooner ‐ the Noorderlicht, manned by a skilled crew and expert naturalist/expedition leader, this exciting voyage involves some participation with the handling of sails, taking the helm or being on watch during the night. Spitsbergen’s majestic frozen landscapes, dramatic geological formations, verdant summer flora and abundant wildlife make for a spectacular introduction to life in the Arctic.
BRIEF ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Embark Longyearbyen 2 | Alkhornet 3 | Smeerenburg 4/15 | Cruising Spitsbergen 16 | Disembark Longyearbyen where trip concludes. Programs may vary depending on local ice and weather conditions and in order to take advantage of opportunities to see wildlife. Flexibility is paramount on expeditions.
