Attempt a circumnavigation of Spitsbergen and revel in the
majestic landscapes and abundant wildlife
Famous for its dramatic landscapes and rich Arctic wildlife, Svalbard is a pristine, ice‐covered archipelago halfway between Norway and the North Pole. Following a flexible itinerary, this voyage aboard Hondius departs in the height of the Arctic summer, giving us the best possible sea ice conditions to attempt a circumnavigation of Spitsbergen, Svalbard’s largest island. Summer this far north of the Arctic Circle means ample daylight hours to experience the region’s staggering landscapes and abundant wildlife ‐ we’ll be keeping watch for seabird colonies, packed walrus haulouts, playful grey seals and polar bears roaming the ice in search of food. With regular Zodiac landings to walk across the Artic tundra, up to high vantage points for sweeping views over the vast ice pack and down to the iceberg‐strewn bays below, this is a remarkable polar journey.
BRIEF ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Embark Longyearbyen 2/9 | Cruise Spitsbergen 10 | Disembark Longyearbyen where trip concludes. Programs may vary depending on local ice and weather conditions and in order to take advantage of opportunities to see wildlife. Flexibility is paramount for expedition cruises.
