of the Antarctic Peninsula
Cruising from the tip of South America and crossing the famed Drake Passage, this Antarctic voyage aboard the vessel Hondius has it all. Accompanied by expert naturalists, we spot albatross gliding gracefully over the southern ocean as we eagerly await our first sight of land. The Antarctic Peninsula offers dramatic scenery and an immense variety of wildlife ‐ a veritable hotbed of activity waiting to be discovered. Our first sightings will be around Melchior Islands and the Schollaert Channel, sailing between Brabant and Anvers Islands. We hope to make landings at Neko Harbour and Paradise Bay if weather permits, continuing on to the picturesque South Shetland Islands where we hope to visit Deception Island or Half Moon Bay. In the southern summer, large ice‐free areas provide breeding grounds for very large numbers of seabirds, penguins and seals; and through the spectacular narrow passage of the Lemaire Channel we can potentially spot Minke, Orca and Humpback whales, as well as many ferocious Leopard seals.
BRIEF ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Embark Ushuaia 2 | Cross Drake Passage 3 | Approach South Shetland Islands 4/8 | Explore western side of Antarctic Peninsula following a flexible itinerary to include some of the following: Livingston Island, Half Moon Island, Deception Island (volcanic crater), Paradise Bay, Lemaire Channel (gigantic icebergs and huge cliffs) together with a host of other islands and scientific bases 9/10 | Cross Drake Passage to Beagle Channel 11 | Disembark Ushuaia where trip concludes

This voyage takes us from the tip of South America across the Drake Passage towards the Antarctic Peninsula, where the continent’s most dramatic scenery and richest diversity of wildlife await us. Making our way towards the Melchior Islands and the Schollaert Channel, we sail between Brabant and Anvers Islands, hoping to make landings at Neko Harbour and Paradise Bay if weather permits – keeping watch along the way for potential sightings of Leopard seals, Orcas, Minke and Humpback whales.
