Experience the abundant wildlife and magnificent scenery of the Antarctic Peninsula
A visit to the Antarctic Peninsula offers the continent’s richest variety of wildlife, set among some of the world’s most dramatic landscapes. After a night in the lively city of Ushuaia, we set sail down the Beagle Channel and across the fabled Drake Passage towards the Antarctic Peninsula. Cruising down the western flanks of the Peninsula, we’ll make regular zodiac landings to walk among crowded penguin rookeries and seal colonies in the vicinity of Deception Island, Gerlache Strait, Paradise Bay and the spectacular Lemaire Channel. Accompanied by our naturalist guide we’ll explore the many sheltered bays and fjords of the region, keeping watch for whales and abundant seabirds while back onboard the Greg Mortimer. If time permits, we hope to include visits to scientific stations and historical sites, and the more adventurous can enhance their polar voyage with an unforgettable kayak, climb, snorkel or ski experience.

Spectacular voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula with
a floating ‘basecamp’ for our varied activities
Crossing the Antarctic Convergence into the Southern Ocean via the fabled Drake Passage, we have ample time to explore the spectacular landscapes and wildlife of this remote continent. This unique program aboard Plancius provides opportunities to explore a pocket of the Peninsula through exciting kayaking, zodiac cruising, hiking, snowshoeing and climbing excursions. Our vessel is our floating basecamp, a warm and comfortable haven to return to after venturing ashore. The option to camp out on the ice is a popular experience that will create memories to last a lifetime, and we utilise the ship’s fleet of zodiacs to explore the rich diversity of wildlife that flourishes in the sheltered bays, steep glaciers and clustered iceberg castles that characterise the shoreline. There are no shortage of photographic opportunities along the Antarctic Peninsula, and our workshops will help you capture the natural beauty of this incredible ice‐bound land. Join in one of the optional activities on offer or simply take in the surreal landscapes of this untouched wilderness.
BRIEF ITINERARY: DAY 1 | Join Ushuaia, commence voyage 2/3 | Cross Drake Passage 4/9 | Pass the Melchior Islands and sail to the Neumayer Channel, where we position our ship for two nights anchor, allowing two full activity days. Our exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula will continue as we follow a flexible itinerary, aiming to include Port Lockroy on Goudier Island, Paradise Bay or Neko Harbour, the Lemaire Channel, and Vernadsky Station to learn about life on a scientific base 10/11 | Re-cross Drake Passage 12 | Disembark Ushuaia where trip concludes
