Keeping Himalayan trails free
of litter 10 Pieces at a time
We are the founding partners of 10 Pieces, a smart initiative that harnesses the collective power of travellers to help keep the trails in Nepal and Bhutan litter free. We invite you to sign-up to collect ten pieces of paper or plastic litter that you find on the trail each day. Your crew will collect the litter at the end of each day and dispose of it responsibly. Leading by example your actions educate mountain communities that litter is not aesthetically desirable and is also detrimental to the health of wildlife and humans alike.
Protecting vulnerable children
Children in tourist areas are especially susceptible to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Our Child Protection Policy, developed in conjunction with World Vision, ensures that travellers who are in prolonged contact with children on our itineraries are vetted to ensure the welfare of the children.
Protecting vulnerable animals
Drawing on the expertise of international animal welfare organisation, World Animal Protection, we have developed the industry’s most comprehensive Animal Welfare Code of Conduct. We advocate that the best animal encounter is a wild one, we encourage you to view animals in their natural habitat and boycott cruel animal encounters.
Travel in Peace
As Coalition Partners of the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism we support the belief that the travel industry can become the world’s first global peace industry and that every traveller is potentially an “Ambassador for Peace”. Below is the Credo of the Peaceful Traveller ...
• Journey with an open mind and gentle heart
• Accept with grace and gratitude the diversity I encounter
• Revere and protect the natural environment which sustains all life
• Appreciate all cultures I discover
• Respect and thank my hosts for their welcome
• Offer my hand in friendship to everyone I meet
• Support travel services that share these views and act upon them
• By my spirit, words & actions, encourage others to travel in peace
GIVING BACK TO COMMUNITIES
The World Expeditions Foundation (WEF) raises funds for grass-roots community development projects in impoverished communities around the world. Funds are directed to community development projects that aim to improve access to education, and we invite travellers to work alongside volunteers from the local community to help complete the project. In 2017, WEF raised funds to purchase
and deliver 40 solar lamps to communities dotted across the Andes that are off the electricity grid, bringing light into homes. By the end of 2017, WEF, with assistance from
World Nomads’ Footprints Network, will fund the installation of 42 healthy cook stoves into the homes of Quechuan families in Peru. The traditional open fire stoves currently in place use solid fuels (wood, coal and dung) and produce high levels of toxic household air pollution that cause a range of health issues, including low birth weight in babies, pneumonia in children, pulmonary disease and bronchitis.
